Welcome to my R&D / Gallery section! The stuff here are usually just tests I put up to ask for opinions and help online. I'm going to put up some of my photographs, but I need to acquire a slide scanner for that...

MatchMoves
Additional matchmoves that I tested out but didn't use in my reel. The models are low res and flat shaded, but the matchmoves are locked in.

1.05mb MOV
Matchmove from a bus!
Dubbed the "Funky Chicken Walk" by my sister! I thought it'd be cool to have a shot of the 209 running at a fast clip along the highway. Unfortunately, it is very obvious while the matchmove works, the 209 is simply not built for speed - I mean, it looks like a Chocobo!
2.83mb MOV
Matchmove along the Quay
These are actually two separate matchmoves spliced together by a whip-pan applied in post. This was supposed to be my original defense shot, but it was deemed.... boring.
1.26mb
Skychange
The original plate had a blown out sky, and I replaced it with a light blue sky and some puffy clouds!

MaxScripts

7.78mb Zipped MOV
Gunfire Simulation Script
My largest scripting attempt to date. Based on Daniel P. Ferreira's Impact System.

This script automatically generates particle systems for Debris, Sparks and Dust clouds, as well as automated lights, a light garbage collector and interface.

Gimbal Lock Hack/Fix
No pictures unfortunately, but this is my simple script that is a proposed hack solution to gimbal lock issues. Basically what it does is to simply layer on another Euler XYZ controller atop the base controller that is nearly into gimbal. Hence, the new animation continues atop the new euler XYZ controller.

Low Res Mesh Generator
Been doing lots of stuff in Maya lately, and apart from learning MEL, I'm also porting some scripts over to Max :)

2) Maxscript Download

UV Scale Script
This script simply scales the UVs of the objects, so the grid squares are all equal. This is used as a perspective guide (of sorts) for matte painters.

2.62mb Zipped Mov
Biped with stretchy leg
Only involving some small scripting (more with the constraints system) issues, this demonstrates a stretchy legs system. But pointless, as you lose say, the pinning features. Might as well go with a full custom rig.

3D Stills

This is a Mental Ray compositing test. For more information, click here!

Faux Simulations
Fun! Some cheap tricks to get cool effects at significantly less processing power.

900kb MOV
Chainmail Simulation
Originally I played with physically simulating a whole mesh of rings, but it was unstable and slow. This workaround utilizes a low res cloth mesh with rings attached to the faces.

530kb MOV
Faux Cloth Sim
At the moment, it is more suitable for faking harder materials, and no collision detection. It's basically just spring constraints with the skin modifier and some stretchy bones!

Particle Effects
Just some particle tests...

1.46mb MOV
Dripping Test

Scale Modelling
Building physical models are fun too!
